Salikoko Mufwene


Salikoko Mufwene is the Frank J. McLoraine Distinguished Service Professor in the Department of Linguistics. He currently works on language evolution and specialization, the phylogenetic emergence of language, and the colonization, globalization, and vitality of languages. He has also researched structural aspects of Gullah, Caribbean English creoles, African American English, and the morphosyntax of Bantu. The author of numerous articles and books, he most recently edited Iberian Imperialism and Language Evolution in Latin America (The University of Chicago Press, 2014).
