Classics
Clifford Ando is David B. and Clara E. Stern Professor in the Departments of Classics, History, and the University of Chicago Law School. His research focuses on the history of religion, law, and government. His current projects include a cognitivist study of metaphor, metonymy, and analogy in Roman legal and political language; a history and critique of Roman and neo-Roman political thought; and two studies of state power in antiquity: a monograph and an edited edition. His most recent book is Roman Social Imaginaries: Language and Thought In The Context Of Empire (University of Toronto Press, 2015).
