Jason Merchant

Linguistics

Jason Merchant is Professor in the Department of Linguistics, Chair of the Department of Slavic Languages and Literatures, and Deputy Dean for Languages in the Division of the Humanities. His research explores the syntax-semantics interface, primarily in Germanic languages and Greek, although he has also worked in Slavic and Romance languages. He is the author of The Syntax of Silence: Sluicing, Islands, and the Theory of Ellipsis (University of Oxford Press, 2001) and editor of Sluicing: Cross-Linguistic Explorations (Oxford University Press, 2012).
